The discussion will begin with a quick look at distribution enterprise capabilities as evidenced by the last 12 months of warfighter support. Roundtable participants will look out over the next one to three years at global requirements as we see them today and innovative ideas to support those requirements.

DOD LEVERAGING COMMERCIAL NETWORKS ROUNDTABLE

The industry participants on this roundtable will share knowledge on the extensive commercial networks currently in place around the world. The focus will be on how to access commercial networks, synchronize them with the military distribution networks, and rationalize them in a way that ensures DOD is taking advantage of the existing options to provide the required support to the Combatant Commanders. DOD participants will discuss how they are currently using commercial networks in their geographic regions and experiences using these networks.  The roundtable will conclude by discussing how to use these rationalized networks more effectively and efficiently.

The focus of this roundtable is to identify/discuss industry best practices that may be applicable to the government and to share how industry works with their best customers to ensure a win/win for both. Said another way, the purpose is to compare/contrast the process for obtaining commercial business with government business. There will be a discussion on relationship building and how the customer identifies/states their requirement to the service provider. The roundtable will explore price determination, the importance of relationships, and follow up after the contract is in place—e.g. are there frequent meetings to measure progress?  What type metrics are used?  Periodic reviews?

This session will address both the progress made and a look forward on Better Buying Power (BBP) initiatives. The panel will discuss best practices implemented to strengthen the Defense Department's buying power, improve industry productivity, and provide an affordable, value-added military capability to the Warfighter.  Participants will address the fundamental acquisition principles utilized to achieve greater efficiencies through affordability, cost control, elimination of unproductive processes and bureaucracy, and promotion of competition.  In addition, the panel will discuss how BBP initiatives incentivize productivity and innovation in industry and government.

The intent of this session is to portray how the expanding availability of data, improved data analysis platforms, and enhanced application analytic capabilities have bolstered both performance and efficiency in transportation operations. The discussion will include the recent improvements in the ability to conduct analysis from a technology or analyst perspective, as well as transportation business trends for the use of analysis and benefits achieved through analytic efforts with an emphasis on using data and analytic techniques for predictive decision making. The intent is to translate complicated analytic topics into the "so what" value to the business in terms of the key capabilities that open up new opportunities to realize efficiencies or bridged chronic gaps in business performance along with the challenges and pitfalls of implementation.
