ARC Supports Major Transit Infrastructure Projects
These Car Body Shells will be put into future service in two of the nation’s highest-profile sponsored projects. “ARC is pleased to continue to support our customers and these major transportation projects, which will provide environmentally friendly transportation in some of the nation’s most heavily-traveled transit corridors”, said Christopher Barber, ARC’s Senior Director of Sales.
Four units were produced by CAF and will enter service in the MDOT – Maryland Transit Administration’s Purple Line service once finishing has been completed. These are funded through the Federal Transit Administration’s Capital Investment Grant (FTA CIG) program. The Purple Line is a light rail line that will link the Maryland suburbs of Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton, all of which are in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
The remaining units were produced by Alstom and are part of Amtrak’s next generation of Acela train cars to be deployed in the Northeast Corridor. The Amtrak Acela fleet recapitalization is funded via FRA RRIF (Railroad Rehabilitation & Improvement Financing) loans. The current Acela Express equipment will be replaced by new “Avelia Liberty” trainsets beginning in 2021 and will have greater passenger capacity and an enhanced active tilt system that will allow faster speed on curved sections of the route.
