As the Army moves away from BCT-centric deployments to Division-centric deployment, what special planning, training and preparation is taking place? What is the speed of war and how do we collectively achieve it?

Ms. Kristina M. O’Brien, SES, Deputy to the Commander, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command led a panel during the Surface Force Projection Conference to explore these important topics. Joining Ms. O’Brien for the discussion were COL Michael Cashner, USA (Ret.), Vice President, Government Services, Landstar Transportation Logistics, Inc.; COL Chad Blacketer, USA, Commander, 596th Transportation Brigade; COL Brian S. Olson, USA, Director for Sustainment, U.S. Army G4, III Corps; COL Daniel J. Duncan, USA, Assistant Chief of Staff, U.S. Army G4, I Corps; and Mr. Daniel J. Reilly, SES, Deputy Director, Support Operations, U.S. Army Sustainment Command.

The SFPC is an annual event co-hosted by NDTA and Christopher Newport University’s Center for American Studies (CNU CAS), in cooperation with the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), the Maritime Administration (MARAD), and the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC). Each year the event brings together US government and industry logistics and transportation experts, and members of the Joint Logistics Enterprise (JLE), to examine a wide range of challenges associated with operating in and through the contested environment to provide US capability at the point of need.
