Breakout Session #1: Inland Waterways Network – A Marine Highway (Open to all participants)
Description: The Inland Waterways Network in the U.S. consists of navigable rivers, canals, and lakes that provide a critical transportation route for moving goods, particularly bulk commodities like coal, grain, and petroleum. As a key part of the U.S. Marine Highway System, it offers an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to land-based transportation, reducing congestion and emissions. This network, which connects industrial hubs and ports, plays a vital role in the nation’s economy and is essential for both domestic and international trade.
