Aug 30, 2022 | From HQ

The 10th annual NDTA-USTRANSCOM Fall Meeting, being held October 17-20, 2022 at the St. Louis Union Station in St. Louis, MO, welcomes keynote speaker Dr. David Simchi-Levi, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT and Director of the MIT Data Science Lab. His research focuses on developing and implementing robust and efficient techniques for manufacturing and supply chains.

Dr. Simchi-Levi was awarded the prestigious INFORMS Impact Prize in 2020, for playing a leading role in developing and disseminating a new highly impactful paradigm for identification and mitigation of risks in global supply chains. He is also an INFORMS Fellow and MSOM Distinguished Fellow and the recipient of the 2020 INFORMS Koopman Award given to an outstanding publication in military operations research. Don’t miss his presentation on “Supply Chain Resiliency and the Need for Stress Tests.”

Dr. Simchi-Levi will cover four key areas:

  • Risks are hidden in unexpected places;
  • Assumptions about risks being associated with certain geographies or certain sized suppliers often prove to be wrong;
  • A supply chain can be highly resilient and highly affordable so the pinpointing the right places to invest in capacity, flexibility, or inventory positioning is critical;
  • A data analytics approach that combines time to survive and time to recover concepts allows companies to stress test their supply chain and is critical for making the right risk mitigation decisions.
