NDTA Announces New Scholarship for Graduate Students
NDTA has announced the addition of a new scholarship program. The Denny Edwards Graduate Scholarship: Academic Scholarship Program D aims to support graduate degree students majoring in the fields of logistics, transportation, supply chain, physical distribution, and passenger travel services, and provide college scholarship opportunities for NDTA members.
The scholarship is named in honor of a long-time NDTA member, staff member, and volunteer, COL Dennis (Denny) L. Edwards, USA (Ret.), who passed away in June of 2020. Denny joined NDTA as a member upon his commissioning in the Army Transportation Corps in 1964. In 1968, he became one of the Association’s youngest Life Members shortly after the Truck Company he commanded in Vietnam won the NDTA Military Unit of the Year Award.
During his military career, Denny served NDTA in various capacities. Among his many notable contributions, he was the creator of what is now called NDTA’s Young Leaders Program. Following his retirement from the military in 1990, Denny joined the NDTA Headquarters staff as the Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development, a position he held for 23-years. He retired from NDTA HQ in 2012 but continued to volunteer for the remainder of his life.
Applications for the new scholarship are now being accepted for 2022. The deadline to submit applications, which can be found here, is April 15.
With the addition of this new scholarship, NDTA’s offerings now include five scholarship programs. The other four are Academic Scholarship Program A for currently enrolled college students; Academic Scholarship Program B for soon-to-be high school graduates, accepted at an accredited institution; Academic Scholarship Program C for currently enrolled, distance learning college students; and for the Christopher Newport University, Center for American Studies, National Security Scholarship. A wonderful and thoughtful tribute to a great practitioner of the “art of logistics”, a marketer with an idea a minute, concern for developing and engaging young talent and a stellar family man.
