The U.S. Senate, in a voice vote August 3, confirmed Rear Adm. (Ret.) Mark Buzby as the Administrator of the Maritime Administration.
As Rear Adm. Buzby transitions to this important post, he leaves a solid legacy as president of the National Defense Transportation Association. We’re grateful for his dedication and leadership in the past few years.
Our reinvigorated educational program is perhaps Rear Adm. Buzby’s most important accomplishment during his tenure. Transportation Academy – a well-received series of professional development courses presented at the annual NDTA-USTRANSCOM Fall Meeting – grew exponentially from an initial offering of 20 courses in 2015 to more than 70 for this year’s event, scheduled Oct. 10-13. NDTA’s newly minted education strategy, aimed at fostering new partnerships with academia, is also poised for initial implementation in 2018.
We’re naturally sad to have Rear Adm. Buzby leave NDTA. But with significant expertise in the maritime industry – as a 1979 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 34-year career naval officer, Commander, Military Sealift Command and president of NDTA – we are confident he will serve our nation well as Maritime Administrator.
NDTA presidents have always come from the top ranks of military transportation. With several highly qualified candidates, we anticipate our Board of Directors selecting the next president and CEO very soon.
In the meantime, we wish Rear Adm. Buzby the very best at the Maritime Administration, and offer our continued support.
