SDDC Commander MG Gavin Lawrence to Discuss Global Force Projection at SFPC

NDTA and CNU’s Center for American Studies (CAS) present the Surface Force Projection Conference (SFPC), “Achieving Surface Deployment at the Speed of War: Supporting Large Scale Operations.” The event will be held May 15-18, at Christopher Newport University (CNU) in Newport News, Virginia.  U.S. government and industry logistics and transportation experts and members of the Joint Logistics Enterprise (JLE) will come together to focus on CONUS strategic seaports, surface transportation modes, and unique challenges associated through the contested environment now and in the future. SFPC attendees will meet keynote speaker MG Gavin Lawrence, USA, Commanding General, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. Major General Lawrence graduated from the United States Military Academy West Point (USMA). His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations from USMA, a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from U.S. Naval War College and a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Studies from U.S. Army War College.

MG Lawrence’s combat and operational service include one deployment to Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and three deployments to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.

Prior to assuming his current role, MG Lawrence served as the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4, U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, NC.
