SFPC Industry Engagement Sessions

The NDTA-CAS Surface Force Projection Conference (Virtual), May 18-20, 2021, features several industry-led sessions that will add to this year’s theme, “From CONUS to the Indo-Pacific Region:  Projecting Forces through Strategic Ports to Provide Combat Power.” So far, we are able to provide you with five opportunities to gain additional insights from our industry partners:

American President Lines (APL) will host two sessions:

  • “Ship American – Restoring American Pride,” will explore the historical importance of the U.S. Merchant Fleet, what we need to do to keep the industry afloat, why Cargo Preference laws are important, and how we can support the U.S. Flag fleet of today.
  • “Sustainability – The Green Fleet,” will cover advancements in sustainability with the use of low sulfur fuel, cold ironing, LNG, and how the U.S. Merchant Fleet is navigating a cleaner world.

American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier (ARC) will host:

  • “Preparing for a Successful Unit Deployment – Lessons Learned from a Commercial Carrier Perspective,” discusses using the lessons learned from numerous large-scale global military unit deployments to help prepare deploying units and military/commercial enablers for future success.

American Maritime Congress will host two sessions:

  • “How the Strategic Adversaries of the U.S. Exert Control of the High Seas and International Ports to Increase Military Hegemony,” provides a timely survey of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and how the maritime element remains a key component of China’s strategic long-game. Likewise, a brief overview of Russia’s aspirations of leveraging its geographic advantages inherent in the Arctic shipping route (Northeast Passage).
  • “What Do DC Insiders Really Think of the U.S. Maritime Industry?” A professional polling firm recently tested different messaging concepts from the maritime industry with Capitol Hill influencers. Hear the methodology and breakdown of the results – which may surprise you!
