(www.transportation.gov) U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy announced the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will modernize train noise emissions standards, clearing the way for high-speed rail in the United States.
Currently, existing train noise standards focus strictly on engine and mechanical sounds, overlooking the wind noise generated at speeds above 160 mph.
The FRA’s modernized framework includes an alternative standard for high-speed trains operating between 160 and 220 mph and an approval pathway for speeds exceeding 220 mph (such as Maglev). Barbara Wobrock, Manager of Military & Government Sales at Delta Air Lines, stepped into the role of GPTAC Airline Committee Chair on March 1, 2026, taking over from Justin Schiffner, Senior Manager, Planning & Strategy, at Southwest Airlines. NDTA is thankful for Justin’s years of faithful service and excellent leadership as committee chair and wish Barbara all the best in this new role, to which she brings more than four decades of experience in the travel and airline industry.

The U.S. Air Force’s X-62A test jet used its artificial intelligence (AI) driven ‘brain’ to autonomously spot and track other aircraft in flight, and then move to intercept them, in recent testing. The AI ‘agent’ on the X-62A performed these tasks by leveraging data from an infrared sensor pod slung underneath the aircraft. The tests demonstrate the autonomous air-to-air combat capabilities the Air Force is hoping to gain from its first batch of operational Collaborative Combat Air (CCA) drones
Army Opens New Testing Hub for Further Air Defense Integration
(breakingdefense.com) The Army announced the establishment of a new operational facility, dubbed Reveille Forge, where service members, industry and academia can come together to integrate their products with existing government-owned equipment, namely those supporting integrated air and missile defense systems.
The new testing facility, formally known as an Integrated Development Environment (IDE), piggy backs off the Army’s recent Operation Jail Break — a sprint concluded last month in which vendors partnered to open up the interfaces of legacy and new equipment with the goal of making them interoperable to share data and information.
Marine Regiment Tests Longer-range Drone Capability
(www.marinecorpstimes.com) The U.S. Marine Corps this month tested a new way to give ground commanders long-range reconnaissance and strike capabilities by experimenting with a medium-sized drone that can launch a separate, one-way attack drone in what the service said was its first regimental-level assessment.
During a training exercise in Twentynine Palms, California, 2nd Marine Regiment paired AeroViroment’s JUMP 20-X with the company’s Switchblade 300 Block 20 loitering munition, a move that could eventually give regiments capabilities beyond the short-range drones currently fielded by the formations.
Air Force Wing Enhances Readiness, Resilience During Exercise Beverly Sentinel
(www.war.gov) Running from July 21-23 at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea, Exercise Beverly Sentinel 26-4 demonstrated the 8th Fighter Wing’s commitment to readiness and force preparedness.
Through intense exercise scenarios, airmen sharpened their specialized skills and practiced critical decision-making under pressure, maintaining an operational tempo required to sustain combat operations in a contested environment.
ABS Joins Landmark Korea-U.S. Initiative to Advance the Future of Shipbuilding
American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) joined leading Korean and U.S. research institutions in signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to advance technical innovation and collaboration across the shipbuilding and maritime sectors as part of the opening of the Korea-U.S. Shipbuilding Partnership Center (KUSPC).
The Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Exchange, (KRISO), the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) and Texas A&M University (TAMU) joined ABS in the MOU, which establishes a framework for cooperation in next-generation technologies, joint research, knowledge exchange, and industry-academia collaboration.
ARA Highlights Innovation in Health Solutions at MHSRS
Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) will present its latest innovations in military health, medical readiness, and Warfighter performance at the 2026 Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS), held August 3 – 6 in Kissimmee, FL. MHSRS is the Department of Defense’s premier scientific meeting for military health research, drawing more than 3,700 attendees from across the military, government, industry, and academia.
Focused on the unique medical needs of the deployed Warfighter, MHSRS brings together operational medical providers, researchers, international partners, and industry leaders to accelerate advances in military-relevant health care and technology.
Southwest Cancels 17 Routes from Its 5 Busiest Airports
Several of the eliminated markets relate to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). Southwest ceased serving them in June 2026 to consolidate at MDW and BWI. As such, some may say that it is unfair to include them. Nonetheless, they are no longer served year-over-year, which is the only criterion.
