INVESTING IN AMERICA: Biden-Harris Administration Announces Nearly $635 Million for 22 Bridge Projects Across the Country

The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced nearly $635 million for 22 small- and medium-sized bridge projects in both rural and urban areas, from Maine to Mississippi to Arizona and Alaska. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will dedicate $40 billion over five years to tackle a backlog of bridge projects, which will improve safety and support economic competitiveness and America’s supply chains, restoring connections that are vital to commuters, emergency responders, truck drivers, and public transit riders. FRA Awards $96.5M to Hydrogen Rail Projects in Three States

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has directed $96.5 million toward three hydrogen rail projects in California, Colorado and Pennsylvania from a $2.4 billion grant package awarded to 41 states for infrastructure and safety improvements.

Federal funds for 122 railway projects were recently awarded through the FRA’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements Program for fiscal years 2023 and 2024.

The US Navy’s Orca Drone Ship: A Game-Changer for Mine Warfare Against China

The Extra Large Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (XLUUV,) fittingly known as Orca, is a 51-ft. autonomous submarine that can carry out clandestine missions, like minelaying. The first Orca began testing in 2023 and late last month, the second Orca hit the water for sea acceptance testing off the coast of Southern California.

US Marines’ Amphibious Combat Vehicle with 30mm Cannon Now in Full Production

The US Marine Corps has awarded Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace a contract to supply long-lead items for its Amphibious Combat Vehicle 30mm program (ACV-30).

According to Kongsberg, this signals the start of full-rate production for the ACV-30.

The $51 million contract includes subcomponents specific to the 30mm remote turret manufactured by Kongsberg in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

Next-Gen Stealth Tanker May Be Unaffordable, Air Force Secretary Fears

Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall raised a warning flag on the service’s ability to afford a next-generation refueling tanker at a mobility conference Nov. 1. The Air Force says that tanker — referred to as the Next-Generation Aerial Refueling System, or NGAS — is necessary to modernize the Air Force’s ability to fight a war against China, along with a sixth-generation fighter known as Next Generation Air Dominance and accompanying drone wingmen known as collaborative combat aircraft, or CCA.
