U.S. Secretary of Transportation to Speak at NDTA-USTRANSCOM Fall Meeting
Topic: “Building a Strong National Defense: U.S. Infrastructure Plan”
The 2021 NDTA-USTRANSCOM Fall Meeting welcomes keynote speaker The Honorable Pete Buttigieg, the 19th Secretary of Transportation. Secretary Buttigieg is the principal advisor to the President of the United States on all matters relating to transportation. His recorded address will provide insight into his plans and goals as Secretary for improving infrastructure as it relates to this community’s mission.
Prior to joining the Biden-Harris Administration, Secretary Buttigieg served two terms as Mayor of his hometown of South Bend, Indiana, during which he launched a “Smart Streets” initiative to improve street design in the downtown and the historically under-resourced West Side. This Complete Streets strategy led to benefits that included small business growth along previously neglected corridors, and hundreds of millions of dollars in new private investment in the once-emptying downtown. His leadership helped spark citywide job growth and facilitated innovative public-private partnerships like Commuters Trust, a benefits program designed to improve the city’s transportation experience for workers.
The strong support that the logistics and transportation community derive from the U.S. Department of Transportation builds a synergistic effect influencing issues impacting sealift, airlift, ports, and surface transport for highways and rail – and in the future, autonomy and space. The DOT also seeks to build resiliency in the Nation’s critical supply chains, including cyber. This session will identify key issues impacting infrastructure, the environment, and our national workforce that are at the forefront of interest.
As a reminder, NDTA and USTRANSCOM are taking steps to ensure the Fall Meeting is safe and healthy, and we are requiring that all participants be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
