Message from NDTA President and CEO in honor of National Transportation Week

As NDTA prepares to mark 75 years as an organization, we continue to have confidence that a strong national defense requires a robust transportation system comprised of military and commercial options.  Likewise, we are committed to the people who ensure U.S. warfighters get the equipment and supplies they need.  National Defense Transportation Day is a United States Federal Observance Day held on the third Friday in May.  It was established by Congress in 1957, followed by the establishment of National Transportation Week in 1962.  National Defense Transportation Day, this year falling on Friday, 18 May 2018, and National Transportation Week, 13-19 May 2018, were established by Congress to ensure proper recognition of the professionals working in our Nation’s transportation industries.  This includes those working to deliver the required equipment and infrastructure necessary for an effective and efficient national transportation capability.  We encourage all to celebrate the week and especially the day which focuses attention on National Defense Transportation.  As an organization, NDTA extends our sincere thanks to all the dedicated and hard-working professionals who ensure the success of our national transportation system—which supports the prosperity and national security of the United States.

By presidential proclamation, this week we celebrate National Transportation Week. We mark this as a dedicated time to honor the importance, hard work and achievements of the interlocking industries that facilitate our nation’s transportation system.

I’ll be celebrating National Transportation Week with Texas Chapters in the Dallas, Houston and San Antonio during local events. Let’s continue this dialog and work together to ensure we remain capable, strong and forward thinking—even as we look back!

William A. Brown Vice Admiral, USN (Ret.) President and CEO
