NDTA-DTMO GovTravels Symposium 2025

Register for the GovTravels Symposium 2025, February 24-27, 2025, at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, Alexandria, VA. GovTravels is the key event where decision makers from government and industry gather to learn and collaborate on passenger travel issues. We’ve created the program with input from NDTA’s Government Passenger Travel Advisory Council (GPTAC), DTMO, GSA, and travel industry representatives.

The GovTravels 2025 theme is “Change Management: Challenges & Solutions in Government Travel,” and focuses on the need for government and industry leaders to effectively manage change, employing creative and innovative solutions to provide government passengers with world-class travel. The agenda includes keynote speakers and fireside chats, an exhibit hall, networking sessions, Travel Academy classes, and Young Leader events. Once again, continuing education unit (CEU) credits are available for professional certification requirements. If you work in passenger travel and related services for the federal government, a state government, or the private sector, the GovTravels Symposium 2025 is a “must-attend” event.

American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier Group and Matson Inducted into NDTA Foundation Pathfinder Society

NDTA inducted two new Pathfinder Society members into the NDTA Foundation Hall of Fame on Oct. 9, 2024. American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier Group, Inc., and Matson—both current NDTA Chairman’s Circle Corporate Members—were recognized at the NDTA Annual Meeting and Award Presentation at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel, St. Louis, Mo., with an award presented by Mr. Larry Larkin, NDTA Foundation Committee Chair, along with Mr. William Woodhour, NDTA Vice-Chairman of the Board, and VADM William A. Brown, USN (Ret.), NDTA President & CEO.

American Ports Drive $2.9 Trillion in Economic Impact and 21.8 Million Jobs, AAPA Report Reveals

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) has released its 2024 Port and Maritime Industry Economic Contribution Report highlighting the essential role US ports play in the national economy. The study underscores that the maritime sector supports nearly $2.9 trillion in GDP and 21.8 million American jobs, cementing ports as a vital pillar of the economy.

“One out of every eight jobs in the US and almost $2.9 trillion in GDP means we cannot imagine our world without American ports,” said AAPA President and CEO Cary S. Biden-Harris Administration Sends Virginia $10 Million in Emergency Relief Funding for Roads and Bridges Damaged by Hurricane Helene

The US Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced the immediate release of $10 million in Emergency Relief funding for the Virginia Department of Transportation released to support emergency repair work stemming from Hurricane Helene.

Google to Buy Nuclear Power for AI Datacentres in ‘World First’ Deal

Google has signed a “world first” deal to buy energy from a fleet of mini nuclear reactors to generate the power needed for the rise in use of artificial intelligence. Google, owned by Alphabet, ordered six or seven small nuclear reactors (SMRs) from California’s Kairos Power, with the first due for completion by 2030 and the remainder by 2035. Army Moves Ahead on Plans to Replace Storied Bradley Fighting Vehicle

(Defense News) Two industry teams competing to design a Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle replacement have completed preliminary design reviews, clearing a hurdle ahead of the next milestone in 2025, Maj. Gen. Glenn Dean, Army program executive officer for ground combat systems, said. In June 2023, American Rheinmetall Vehicles and General Dynamics Land Systems were selected to continue into a detailed design phase of the XM30 Mechanized Infantry Combat Vehicle.

Army Closes in on Autonomous Boats to Ferry Supplies into Battle

(Defense News) The Army is developing requirements to distribute supplies to troops on the battlefield in a contested environment using a network of autonomous boats and aircraft, according to the general in charge of logistics modernization.

IMO Proposes ‘Pricing Mechanism’ for Ships to Reduce Ghg Emissions

(American Journal of Transportation) United Nations’ International Maritime Organization (IMO) is considering a ‘pricing mechanism’ to accelerate international shipping’s transition away from greenhouse gases (ghg) and toward zero emissions. The proposal came out of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) session at IMO Headquarters in London. The IMO announced October 10 the development of mid-term measures to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions to meet the ambitions set out in the 2023 IMO Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships.

Army Speeds up Development of Multipurpose ‘Launched Effects’

(Defense News) With funds freed up from the US Army’s aviation rebalance earlier this year, the service will move more quickly on Long-Range Launched Effects (LE) development and procurement, according to the Army’s program executive officer for aviation. LE is a program by the US Army to develop unmanned systems that can be launched from aircraft and vehicles to perform a variety of tasks, such as targeting, reconnaissance, surveillance, network extension or kinetic strike.

Leidos Awarded $331 Million Contract to Modernize the Army’s Global Unified Network

Leidos was recently awarded a new contract to modernize the U.S. Army’s network in alignment with the Army’s Network Modernization Strategy and Army Unified Network Plan. The contract was awarded by the Army Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communications-Tactical Global Enterprise Network Modernization-OCONUS (PEO C3T GENM-O). The contract has a one-year base period of performance with four one-year option periods. The contract has a total value of $331 million if all options are exercised.

Port of Corpus Christi Announces Record Third Quarter 2024 Volumes

The Port of Corpus Christi and its customers moved 53 million tons through the Corpus Christi Ship Channel in the third quarter of 2024, a new quarterly high mark driven by increases in crude oil and dry bulk movements. This represents a 2 percent increase from the same period last year, which was the prior highest quarter in the Port’s history. The Port of Corpus Christi saw a 3 percent increase in crude oil shipments over the same period (to 33.5 million tons) through the Port’s infrastructure and customer facilities.
